Digital Portfolio

SHAWN ROSSELET

My name is Shawn Rosselet and this is my digital portfolio to be used to establish a professional online identity. Developing an online identity allows for future employers to gain insight to my personality, my academic career, and my professional goals for the future. Included are two writing samples that showcase my writing and communication skills and background information that provides insight to my educational history.

I am currently an undergraduate student in the College of Engineering. I am working on attaining my bachelor’s degree in mechanical and aerospace engineering at the University of Florida with the intent on getting my master’s degree in business. I have always held my education in high regard, and thus have tried to challenge myself throughout my academic career.

I received the vast majority of my education at the Dubai American Academy in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. I had known since I was in elementary school that a career in engineering was in my future. Since then, I have tailored my classes to best prepare me for the large amounts of science and math I knew I would be required to do in the future. In high school, I was on my way to achieving my International Baccalaureate Diploma with a rigorous schedule consisting of higher level math and science classes. Unfortunately, my family moved away from Dubai to a small town in Florida where I completed my last year of high school. Moving in the middle of IB (where courses are two years long) ruined my chances of getting my IB diploma, so I graduated high school with certificates in certain classes instead. Despite the huge setback in my education, I gained acceptance into the University of Florida, where I have been determined to take a rigorous course-load and excel academically.

I am currently about to finish my fourth semester of university, having completed courses (and their prerequisites) such as Calculus 3, Computer Aided Graphics and Design, Physics 2 with Calculus, Statics, and Professional Communications for Engineers, among others. I have developed many diverse skills that are relevant to my intended field of work such as 3D visualization and sketching, solid modeling, basic Java and professional writing and communication skills.

It is in my hopes to be able to professionally apply my newly attained skills and knowledge from my academic history to internships and/or jobs in the near and distant future. As a future engineer, the ability to efficiently and accurately communicate ideas within the professional environment is vital. I have consciously been developing my professional writing skills, and in order to showcase my college composition skills as a technical writer, I have provided links to two samples of my writing below.

WRITING SAMPLE #1: INSTRUCTION MANUAL

This instruction manual was written in the Fall of 2014, for a Professional Communications course at the University of Florida. In this manual, I provide detailed instructions and accompanying visuals in order to assist readers on the correct method of propagating a coleus plant.

WRITING SAMPLE #2: TECHNICAL DEFINITION

Writing Sample #2

This technical definition essay was written for the same course specified above. In this essay, I analyze the definition of 'transmitter' as it relates to the field of mechanical engineering.
